So yesterday I went to Best Buy to purchase some Microsoft Points so I can get Dawnguard when it comes out.
Now I’m a gruff looking guy. I have a rough mountain man/nerd appearance. So I don’t really get bothered while in the store by employees. I’m not sure why. I proceeded to retrieve the points, and headed up towards the registers. All the registers were closed so I had to checkout at customer service. Ok, that’s not a problem.
The girl who checked us out had that hipster appearance thing going on. Dyed hair, skinny jeans, and piercings. The usual hipster look. She checks us out and I pay cash for the points.
Now when I purchase items from a store I expect to leave with three things. The item or items, the receipt, and a bag. Just a little plastic bag like the kind they put your groceries in. That’s all I want. I consider these three things to be part of standard checkout procedure.
So she finishes the trannsaction and then asks if I’d like a bag. I said yes. The next response that comes out of her mouth is, “Really?” It was in a surprised and astonished tone.
Alright so in my head I’m thinking to myself, “I said yes I’d like a bag, why are you asking “really”? What possible reason could make her think I was lying about wanting a bag. Has there been some sort of moral crusade against putting items in bags. Is the world going to end if you put the item in a bag?” It was just bizarre how she said it.
I had to to assure her I wanted a bag.
She then asks me if I want a large bag so can put other stuff in it later. You know it was like she was attempting to figure out my intentions about asking for the item to be placed in a bag. At this point I kind of think she was judging me. I’m standing there thinking to myself, “Good lord just put the damn item in a bag so I can leave.” I tell her to just put the item in a little bag.
She does and I walk out of the store on my merry way.
I just thought this was highly bizarre how she went about it. If someone says yes when you ask if they want a bag, why would you respond with “Really?” Then to ask what size bag I want. Obviously I want a bag that corresponds to the items size.
I just found it odd. I don’t understand the reasoning behind that interaction.
I don’t know, maybe I’m just crazy.
